The weather was nice tonight - sunny, warm and not too windy, and fourteen women signed up to do tonight's time trial. Unfortunately one had a mishap at the turn-around. Liz King shoulder-checked, saw an orange jersey on her tail and assumed that it was another time trialist, and hence that it was safe to turn. Regrettably it was not one of us, and just as she was doing the turn, the cyclist T-boned her in an attempted pass. Both went down, thankfully without serious injury. Two other time trialists, Angela Beauchamp and Sylvie D'Aoust stopped to assist/console, and so we designate them in the results as "GSA" for "Good Sportswoman Award". Of the eleven finishers, only three had completed a previous 15km CFCTT in 2012, and all of these improved upon their previous best 2012 15km CFCTT. In fact, of the eight who had ridden at least one 10km or 15km CFCTT time trial this year, all improved upon their previous best 2012 CFCTT speed, and three of those posted cube-speed improvements of more than 10%. Vie Babikian (26:17), who was second fastest, was the most improved at 29.86%, while fifth placed Brenda Baxter (28:42) improved by 17.68% and 11th placed Nancy Desroches (33:09) posted a 10.29% improvement. The fastest rider of the night was Kathy Bradley (24:15) who improved by 2.7% despite her focus on running rather than cycling these days. The third placed rider was Celia McInnis (26:55) who was the least improved at 0.38% and who had the most excessive collection of excuses - everything from riding four time trials per week to attending 6 concerts per day, but hey, the pink tape is off of her knee finally! Anyway, you can click here to see a graph of the CFCTTs ridden this season by tonight's riders. Try to get five time trials in to qualify for a medal! You can click here to see those who have already ridden five CFCTTs in 2012. We will have time trials until the end of August, so you have three more chances to bring your total up to five. So those who have done at least two so far can still get in five.
