This site, now in its 27th season, is a labour of love and fun from one of Ottawa's most avid time trialists and number crunchers. It adheres to and is permitted by the laws of Canada, promotes the objectives of every bicycle club whose results are shown, and is donated free of charge by myself for your enjoyment and usage. If you would like results from series you ride in to be shown here, give me (celia.mcinnis@gmail.com) a shout!
NOTE that this site had to be quickly moved to a new server with a new version of Perl. Unfortunately the way of interacting with the web form has changed, so I'll have to do some reprogramming to get the buttons and search boxes working. Meanwhile the links work fine and you can always add query specifications into the URL! :-)

NEW MINIME MALE COURSE RECORD by DEREK GEE 20:43 (43.443km/h)

With the wind largely from the east, it was not easy going out, and a bit of rain didn't improve the situation, but still this was not enough to stop Derek Gee from taking another 7 seconds off of the Male Minime (13-14 years old) record that he set last week. This week he did 20:43, that is 43.443 km/h! To see how phenomenal this time is, consider the Age Handicapping method put in place by the OBC in 2003, which puts Derek in first place with a handicapped time of 18:13 even though it doesn't even give any extra benefit for kids under the age of 15 years old! Only Aaron Fillion has gone faster than this, and only one time so far with his 18:04 course record last week! First overall tonight was Warren MacDonald with a tie for his season-series best of 18:34 (48.474km/h) from 2011-Jun-30, and 10 seconds slower than his database best and former course record of 18:24 set on 2009-Jun-11. Second overall and first amongst the women was Sue Schlatter in 20:08 (44.702km/h), 28 seconds slower than her season-series best and women's course record of 19:40 (45.763km/h) which she set on 2011-Aug-04. Matt DeLuco was third overall in 20:15 in a season-series personal best with a 5.78% improvement in his cube speed but 11 seconds off of his personal best of 20:04 from 2010-Jul-15. Third place in the men went to Peter Hamilton (20:22), a 1 second improvement on his season-series best, though 28 seconds off of his all-time best of 19:54 set last year on 2010-Jun-17. Second place in the women was Veronik Bourgon in 22:36 (39.823km/h), 29 seconds slower than her best of 22:07 set on 2011-Jul-07. Third fastest woman was Junior rider Nina Nesdoly in 23:29 (38.329km/h) who was 18 seconds off of her database best of 23:11 (38.821km/h) which she did on 2011-May-19. Concerning the riders as a whole, 16 of the 65 who were not first-timers improved upon their previous database best with the tandem duo of Larry Burge and Helen MacLellan (23:32 or 38.244km/h)) being the most improved with a performance ratio of 1.1989 relative to the cube speed of their earlier 25:00 attempt on 2011-Aug-18! In terms of series-season improvements, Laura Johnson (24:54 or 36.145km/h) led the pack with a 21.23% cube speed improvement, inspired by a gift of a skin suit! She will do really well once she gets better wheels and a more aerodynamic bike. The equipment makes a huge difference in time trials - Most people drop their times by a minute or so when they buy a more aerodynamic bike such as a Cervelo, and additional improvements come from disc wheels in the back, tri-spoke wheels in the front, aero-helmets, and so on. The good news is that all this equipment can keep older riders motivated in that we can offset our slowing with age by buying faster bikes!

These results were posted on the OBC site circa 19:00 on 2011-Sep-02 and are available here for your added pleasure and analysis.

(Lest complaints about me just lazily sucking in the results surface, I wish to make it perfectly clear that I would gladly do the data entry, getting the results up within a few of hours of the event, as history shows that I did for the WTT series for the decade beginning in 1998, and for the OTT series from 1999-2002 and again in 2006. The OBC Board however, not only won't let me volunteer here, but strangely enough they actually expelled me from the OBC for donating this time trial web site to you !)
