"VTTA+" Handicaps

This handicapping method is based upon the British VTTA standards for 40+ year old riders. The VTTA's table essentially list the standards that they would like riders to continue to meet in their time trialling at as they age. Amongst the benefits of the VTTA approach of using standards tables are the following:

  1. Riding times are given for each age, so we can use these times to calculate the drop in performance for these standard speeds.

  2. We can then apply some mathematics/physics to analyze these drops and then calculate what the expected times would be for riders who are faster or slower than the VTTA standard times.

  3. Since at each age there is a standard time for men and a different standard time for women, this provides us with a gender-handicap at each age for people who are at the standard.

  4. Again we can apply some math/physics to calculate the gender handicap for people who are faster or slower than the standard.

I am currently awaiting some of the British Standards for youths to add handicaps for younger riders to the mix. I have done the analysis as listed in points 2 and 4.
