The weather was pretty foul tonight - 12°C, rainy and strong, gusty Northwest winds - bone chilling. Amazingly, nine women showed up to ride. Only one rider improved upon her earlier season-series best, and that was the fastest rider of the night, Heather Tkalec at 18:16, one second per km faster than her previous best this year, a 4.17% improvement in her cube speed. Second place Caitlin Crooks (18:50) was 28 seconds slower than her best while third place Susan MacIsaac (18:56) was 55 seconds slower than her season-series best. Note also that one rider, Kim Reynolds (24:37), out for the first time this year, managed to improve upon her previous database best. She credited the 3.164km/h speed improvement to her upgrade from a hybrid to a road bike. She also liked the fact that her time was 24:37 and her speed was 24.37 rounded to two decimal places, and of course this was also enjoyed by the numbers lady, Celia McInnis (me!). BTW Celia was pleased with her rather low 55.98% performance ratio tonight since she was essentially riding one legged.
She had a painful trip over a wire in the wonderful van Gogh exhibit yesterday. She landed hard (very hard!) on her left knee and hopes that it recovers quickly, because she really doesn't like resting very much!
