This evening was supposed to be the first 15km CFC time trial of the season, but the ladies voted to have another go at 10km, especially since we had one new rider, Teresa Doré. The fun began when, cycling to the 10km start line, Teresa realized that she may have been duped - that although we were calling this a 10km time trial, she had to ride the whole 15km course. She let us know that she knew (and enjoyed) what we were up to, even if we were dismissing the ride to the start as a "warm up" and the ride from the finish back to the museum as a "cool down". Funnier yet was the readout of the results. Tech support Celia McInnis had missed changing the distance for the time trial from the 15km that it should have been to the 10km (yes, Teresa, with obligatory warmup and cooldown) that it became. This gave Celia McInnis (18:05) a time that was only one second slower than Aaron Fillion's phenomenal 15km course record of 18:04. Hah - Who says that riding 3 or 4 time trials in a week diminishes performance? Jim continued down the list giving the calculated average speeds along with the times. Had the times been for 15km rather than 10km, Celia McInnis (18:05) would have gone 49.77km/h, second place Natalie Labbé (18:09) would have done 49.587km/h and third place Caitlin Crooks (18:57) would have managed 47.493km/h. Also below the 20 minute mark, which would have been faster than 45km/h if we really had done 15km, were Angela Beauchamp (19:43) and Angela Pompeo (19:59). Anyway, we got a good chuckle out of the error, and were tempted to leave the results up until the search engines got a hold of them. Note that you can calculate what the speeds were by using this time trial calculator. Finally, congratulations to those who improved upon their previous 2012 CFCTT best - Natalie Labbé upped her cube speed by more than 15%(!), Heather Crysdale by 9.62% and Angela Pompeo by 4.032%.
