The grey clouds kept their distance leaving us with a pleasant time trial night, and if the weather records for the Ottawa International Airport were appropriate for our course, some of us may have even had the wind with us both ways! Still, only 5 out of the 24 who had ridden a previous WTT-2012 15km improved upon their previous best WTT-2012 15km and only 7 out of 26 riders improved upon their previous best speed in the WTT-2012 10km or 15km events. The three riders who posted database bests tonight were all new to time trialling this season - para-cyclist Kim Fawcett (34:06, 26.393km/h) upped her cube speed by almost 19%, Minime rider Devon Robitaille (29:27, 30.560km/h) broke 30 minutes for the first time with his 7.84% improvement, and Janice Campbell (25:16, 35.620km/h) improved by 4.41% from her 25:38 in the OBC Open TT series last Thursday. It's wonderful to see Nicole LaViolette getting stronger, and we'll look forward to her getting back to full strength. Also, great riding from our Veteran E (70-79 years old) rider Mary Ajersch (26:01, 34.593km/h). This is an incredible result for a woman approaching her 72nd birthday! Mary ranked first via the VTTA-plus handicaps and ranked second by the OBC Age Handicapping of 2003. Congratulations as well to the fastest riders tonight - Tricia Spooner (22:09, 40.632km/h), Lindsay Los (24:39, 36.511km/h), Alison Ingham (24:54, 36.145km/h) and Laura Johnson (24:56, 36.096km/h).
These results were posted on the OBC site circa 22:00 on 2012-Aug-14 and are available here for your added pleasure and analysis.
(Lest complaints about me just lazily sucking in the results surface, I wish to make it perfectly clear that I would look after the data entry. Historically, for the decade starting in 1998 I had all of the WTT series up within a few hours of the event, and likewise for the OTT series from 1999-2002 and again in 2006. More recently, I have written web software which can run from the start/finish lines to register, seed, calculate rider times from elapsed times and database the results immediately. The OBC Board however, not only won't let me volunteer here, but strangely enough they actually expelled me from the OBC for donating this time trial web site to you !)
