Ottawa Bicycle Club Women's TT Series
2007 Awards and Awards Banquet
(photos by Don Wilson & Michael Coiré & Barbara Wilson)
We give a number of awards out in this series to the participants who have completed at least five WTT events in the current year.
In the past, we considered only the 15km events, but this year, especially because of the road construction on the Rockliffe Parkway, we decided to look at all of the events ridden.
Note that the prizes awarded are gathered by the participants from a number of individuals, bicycle stores and other businesses in the area. We have listed all of our donors at the bottom of this page. We thank them from the bottom of our hearts and encourage you to do likewise.

Tricia Spooner & Robert Parniak did 20:40 this year - an improvement of 16 seconds from their 2006 WTT Invitational ride of 20:56.

The VCF class was our biggest and quickest category this year, with Ellen and Erika occupying the fastest two spots overall for the best five 2007 WTT speeds. Winner: Christa Ramonat
Mathematically speaking, the winner of this award was the woman who rode at least five WTT events in 2007
and had the minimum value for the standard deviation of the performance ratio (cube-speed ratio) of her speeds relative to her best speed in the 2007 WTT series. The ordered ranking of this years participants relative to this score can be seen by looking at
this table or
this graph.
Note that our above simple definition of "consistent" is looking for consistency REGARDLESS of the weather conditions or time of year.
Clearly we want to ensure that the rider getting this award didn't rank highly because of riding only on days with more similar conditions than other riders. Looking at the EvtFactor column in the table shows that Christa rode in as variable a set of conditions as the other contenders.

Runner-up: Jane Hammingh
For second place, we chose Jane Hammingh, for scoring highest in both of these regards, of the participants who had done at least ten WTT events in 2007.
Even more noteworthy than improvements within the current season, however, were Jane's improvements since she began time trialling 2 years ago. Jane did her seven fastest solo time trials this year, with a marked upwards trend in her average speeds since 2005.

Runner-up: Kathy Bradley
Kathy missed only one WTT event in August. Both Celia and Kathy showed up to race on the cold and rainy 2007-Jun-05 and were relieved that the volunteers were as keen to cancel as they were!
