Heavy rainfall in various parts of Ottawa at 17:00 likely scared off those who haven't given up on keeping their bicycles clean. Only fourteen did tonight's WTT event and we were treated to excellent conditions - low air pressure, virtually no wind (certainly far lower than reported at the airport) and reasonably warm. This was the 5th and last 10km WTT of 2012 (15km time trials start next week). There have been 107 finishes, that is 1070km, completed in a total time of 33:28:07 giving an average speed of 31.970km/h. Of the five 10km WTTs, tonight has the best EventFactor. All but two of tonight's riders posted 2012-WTT bests, and those that didn't were still close to their season/series best. Congratulations to Alyssa Mellon, not only for being the fastest of the evening (15:04), but also for being the most improved with a 1.2127 cube speed ratio relative to her previous 2012 WTT best 10km. Veteran C (50-59 years old) rider Ingrid Coney (16:51) in second place was the second most improved relative to her previous 2012 WTT best with a performance ratio of 1.1591, while third place Lindy Ledohowski was thrilled to slip into the sixteens with her 16:59. Since we have such a large range of ages amongst our participants (from 13 to 80 years old), it is interesting to look at a some age handicapping systems. The OBC age-handicapped method proposed in 2003 would place our youngest competitor Kyle Caie in second place, while leaving our oldest participant, Jackie MacDonald in last place. If instead we apply generalized British VTTA age/gender handicapping which just applies to older people or women, we see that Jackie moves up 3 places.
These results were posted on the OBC site circa 21:00 on 2012-May-29 and are available here for your added pleasure and analysis.
(Lest complaints about me just lazily sucking in the results surface, I wish to make it perfectly clear that I would gladly do the data entry, getting the results up within a few of hours of the event, as history shows that I did for the WTT series for the decade beginning in 1998, and for the OTT series from 1999-2002 and again in 2006. The OBC Board however, not only won't let me volunteer here, but strangely enough they actually expelled me from the OBC for donating this time trial web site to you !)
