This site, now in its 27th season, is a labour of love and fun from one of Ottawa's most avid time trialists and number crunchers. It adheres to and is permitted by the laws of Canada, promotes the objectives of every bicycle club whose results are shown, and is donated free of charge by myself for your enjoyment and usage. If you would like results from series you ride in to be shown here, give me (celia.mcinnis@gmail.com) a shout!
NOTE that this site had to be quickly moved to a new server with a new version of Perl. Unfortunately the way of interacting with the web form has changed, so I'll have to do some reprogramming to get the buttons and search boxes working. Meanwhile the links work fine and you can always add query specifications into the URL! :-)

OBC Women's TT Series - 2012-Jul-24 - 15km (Rockliffe Pkwy) (EvtFactor= 0.9054)

Ottawa Weather (18:00): Partly Cloudy. Temperature: 24°C, Humidity: 42%, Dew point: 11°C, Wind: NNW 24 gust 36km/h, Pressure: 100.8kPa, Vis: 10km, Humidex: 26.
Ottawa Weather (19:00): Partly Cloudy. Temperature: 24°C, Humidity: 44%, Dew point: 11°C, Wind: NNW 32km/h, Pressure: 100.8kPa, Vis: 10km, Humidex: 25.
Ottawa Weather (20:00): Mostly Cloudy. Temperature: 21°C, Humidity: 53%, Dew point: 12°C, Wind: NNW 22km/h, Pressure: 101.0kPa, Vis: 10km, Humidex: *.

Well the air pressure was good at less than 101, and there were only a few raindrops to contend with at the end of the race, but strong, gusty winds from the NNW made it rather difficult to control some of our squirmy time trial bikes. If you look at the pictures of tonight's event, you will see that about half of us were off of our aero bars as we approached the finish line - We felt unsafe on them! Amazingly, three women managed to improve upon their 2012 WTT previous best 15km time trial! It was no surprise that last week's new rider Claire Menzel had a phenomenal improvement, but WOW her cube speed increased by 79.47%! Last week she rode the event on a hybrid bicycle with long jeans. She did 37:16. This week, dressed for success in cycling shorts and riding a road bike, she did 30:40. The bike probably gave her a few minutes and the clothes might have been almost as helpful. The second most improved at 12.45% was Laura Johnson (24:39), who enjoyed using Alex Buffa's fast wheels. He claimed that they would increase her speed by a couple of km/h. Sharolyn Higgs also improved, and along with the fastest lady, Veronik Bourgon, improved upon her previous database best. Veronik claimed that her tri-spoke wheels actually worked better with today's strong side winds than they had in the 2012-Jul-19 open time trial - She indicated that she averaged 10 watts less, and yet rode 29 seconds faster! Those of us with deep-dished rims seemed to be the most adversely affected by tonght's conditions, being pushed out into the middle of the road. Maybe we're better to view our wheels as worthwhile in keeping us out there having fun on the course for more time! I'd also like to recognize the accomplishment of a para-athlete, Kim Fawcett, who had a prosthesis in place of a right leg. She managed to do 36:08 which is 24.908km/h. This is an incredible achievement!

These results were posted on the OBC site circa 22:00 on 2012-Jul-24 and are available here for your added pleasure and analysis.

(Lest complaints about me just lazily sucking in the results surface, I wish to make it perfectly clear that I would look after the data entry. Historically, for the decade starting in 1998 I had all of the WTT series up within a few hours of the event, and likewise for the OTT series from 1999-2002 and again in 2006. More recently, I have written web software which can run from the start/finish lines to register, seed, calculate rider times from elapsed times and database the results immediately. The OBC Board however, not only won't let me volunteer here, but strangely enough they actually expelled me from the OBC for donating this time trial web site to you !)
