John Warren comments: "For our last 15k time trial for 2011, seven riders arrived at Union Hall to good conditions; 23º C temps and 15-20k breeze, but a light breeze at race time. All riders finished. Fastest overall was Neil Farish (OBC) in a time of 24:29. Dianne Marleau (OBC) was the fastest female in a time of 25:32. Fastest from ABC was Les Humphreys in a time of 25:40. Celia McInnis was fastest ABC female in a time of 26:21, a Season's Best time."
For your interest, here are the BAR rankings for ABC members, which are based upon the total time taken for the rider's best ABC 40km and the best three ABC 15km time trials. Congratulations to Scott Hamilton and Celia McInnis (myself!) here. Also interesting is this consistency graph for the BAR qualifiers which measures how close the cube speeds of the best 40km and three 15km ABC time trials for each rider are to their season's best cube speed. Les Humphreys wins this ranking. I believe that Les was riding a fixed gear in all of these races, and that it a pretty incredible feat on the hilly ABC courses, not to mention for a 70 year old man. Celia McInnis (myself!) was a near second in this regard measuring .9703 to Les' .9712, though she jokes that if she had increased her pre-15km time trial commutes from 100km to 200km, she may have made her ABC 15km speeds even closer to her best ABC 40km speed! Anyway, thanks very much to John and Sherry Warren, Bob Woods, and all of the other volunteers who run this series. It is a lot of fun!
The annual end-of-season dinner takes place at the Union Hall on Saturday, Oct. 22 at 6 pm; guest speaker is ABC alumnus Alex Cataford, now one of Canada's best Junior cyclists. For tickets call Les Humphreys 613-256-2498, Dave McAuslan 613-253-0290, or Bob Woods 613-256-1874.
