Well, not the nicest weather for time trialing, with the cold temperature, light rain, and air pressure higher than ideal, but at least the winds seemed lighter than reported by Environment Canada. Congratulations to Veronik Bourgon for being the only rider to exceed her previous database best for 10km - by almost 26%! Normally, people ride their slowest time trial of the year on Good Friday, and their speeds increase as the weather and their fitness improve in May, however the five of us who rode both this evening and on this year's Good Friday, were all slower tonight - and this was even so despite riding a shorter distance! Anyway, it was great to see 15 women out to ride, and it would be fantastic if we could get 100 women out on some nicer nights this year! The largest number of women ever to ride at a WTT event was 52 back on 1993-Jul-20, a number which consisted of five teams of two and 42 individual riders. Note that the weather archive indicates that the conditions were a little rough at 18:00 that night with thunder, rain and winds gusting to 43km/h. For your curiousity, you may click here to see how the three of us who rode on both 1993-Jul-20 and tonight fared almost 18 years later.
These results were first posted on the OBC site circa 22:00 on 2011-May-03 and are available here for your added pleasure and analysis.
(Lest complaints about me just lazily sucking in the results surface, I wish to make it perfectly clear that I would gladly do the data entry, getting the results up within a few of hours of the event, as history shows that I did for the WTT series for the decade beginning in 1998, and for the OTT series from 1999-2002 and again in 2006. The OBC Board however, not only won't let me volunteer here, but strangely enough they actually expelled me from the OBC for donating this time trial web site to you !)
