Fairly calm conditions allowed 7 men to break the hour mark and one woman to break 70 minutes in this first 40km ABC time trial of 2011. The fastest ride was by Cuylar Conly in 54:32 - good currently for 22nd in the fast ABC 40km results databased thus far. This is the first 40km result we have for Cuylar, but he has been doing some great 15km times this year, and considering his young age, we can look forward to lots of future improvements. Likewise, fourth place finisher Philippe Bergeron (58:26), who is even younger and still a teenager, will get stronger over the next decade. We had one earlier ABC 40km time for him when he was still a cadet rider back on 2007-Aug-12. He managed an impressive 1:03:57 on that occasion. Second and third positions were held by Paul Datars (57:33) and Rick Sudac (58:07), who have years of experience with doing fast 40km time trials. Rick continues to top age/gender handicappings such as those generalized from the VTTA. Note that three riders - Philippe Bergeron (1.3108), Flavia Nascimento(1.1928) and Shawn Hamilton (1.0776) improved upon their previous 40km database best for the Calabogie course. It's also fun to see how people do on the 40km courses relative to the OBC 15km course, and here is a graph showing that. Congratulations to all who rode and thanks, as always to John and Shirley Warren and to Les Humphreys for their continued help and good cheer.
