It was a lovely summer day for a time trial. Several of us reported feeling quite demoralized with how slow we were going on the up and out leg into the south breeze, but we all had lots of fun on the return trip. Most noteworthy is the new Minime Male record set by Derek Gee. Derek took six minutes and twenty-two seconds off of the mark he set last year. In terms of the fastest men, five broke the hour mark. Ron Amos was first in 54:37, 3 seconds off of his previous best on this course, whereas Jon Gee, in second place with 55:16 was 46 seconds faster than his previous best, and fourth place finisher Alexandre Michel, at 57:48, was almost five and a half minutes better than his previous attempt on this course two years ago when he only managed 1:03:13. The other two sub-hour times were by two riders who were doing their first Calabogie 40km time trial - third place Matthew Surch (57:23) and fifth place Duncan Beard (58:06). First ABC man was Michael Coldwell in 1:07:43. For the women, Andrea McKay was fastest with 1:03:30, Dianne Marleau was second with 1:08:34, and Stephanie Rees placed third with a new 40km PB of 1:12:08. Celia McInnis was the fastest ABC woman with a time of 1:15:05. Note that three out of the five who also rode the 2011-Jun-05 Calabogie 40km improved upon their previous season/series best, while six of the 21 improved upon their previous 40km database best.
