As Lili Caron and Jacinthe Vadeboncoeur were registering riders, Lili's mom called and warned of the prediction of scattered tornados in the region. Other volunteers indicated that the radar had shown that the expected trouble had bypassed Ottawa and headed towards Cornwall, so numbers were given out and we headed to the start line. The air pressure was quite low at 100.4 or 100.5 kPa, and this was helpful, but the side winds from the north were a challenge. Only one rider improved upon her 2012 WTT 15km best, and that was the fastest woman of the night, Ellen Pazdzior (23:16). Ellen has actually improved each time out and her ride tonight was the fastest Veteran C Female ride so far this year. Note that the Veteran C riders took the top three places tonight. Jacinthe Vadeboncoeur (23:36) has improved phenomenally this year, even before she started using her partner's Cervelo, and she had the fastest Veteran C Female distinction last week. Ingrid Coney (25:08) made up the top trio. Note that the most unimproved rider tonight was Myriam Burton, but she had a great excuse - a nice, new bike! She commented afterwards that it used different muscles that her former bike! She will be back to improving as soon as she either adjusts the bike or adapts her body to it. The greatest fun of the night was probably had by and as a result of a young lady, Claire Menzel, who after watching the Grand Prix on the past weekend, arrived with her dad to watch the WTT event. The registrars convinced her to ride despite her lack of preparation. She was wearing a long pair of jeans (which I at least hope had some lycra in them), and had no helmet. Not to worry, Jacinthe lent her a helmet, and Jetje gave her one of her incredibly bright orange cycling jerseys to wear. What more do you need than a hybrid bicycle! Anyway, she went off first and got back last, but she had an excellent speed of 24.150 km/h considering what she was wearing and riding! She enjoyed the event and will be back.

(Lest complaints about me just lazily sucking in the results surface, I wish to make it perfectly clear that I would look after the data entry. Historically, for the decade starting in 1998 I had all of the WTT series up within a few hours of the event, and likewise for the OTT series from 1999-2002 and again in 2006. More recently, I have written web software which can run from the start/finish lines to register, seed, calculate rider times from elapsed times and database the results immediately. The OBC Board however, not only won't let me volunteer here, but strangely enough they actually expelled me from the OBC for donating this time trial web site to you !)
